Larry E. Dooley

Larry E. Dooley, 77, of Stonington, passed away at 9:48am on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Heritage Manor in Pana. He was born on October 27, 1943 in Taylorville, the son of Orville L. and Mabel Lucille (Blakeman) Dooley. He married Nancy Carole Light on April 16, 1966 in the First Baptist Church in Taylorville. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2018. Larry graduated from Stonington High School where he played on the high school basketball team. He served his country in the US Army working on communication systems, a trade he continued throughout his working career. He retired from AT&T where he constructed fiberoptic communication networks. Larry was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church. He was an avid golfer, a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and followed many area high school basketball teams. Most of all he loved his family, and cherished his role as a grandpa, and recently became a great grandfather.

 

He is survived by his family, son: Rodney Dooley (Trisha) of Atoka, Tennessee and their children Kali (Gabe) Cicero, son Mateo, and Dallas Dooley; daughter: Monica Wamsley (Jon) of Taylorville and their children: Jesse Bertoldo and Cody (Amber)Bertoldo; son: Jason Dooley (Rhea) of Stonington and their children: Lane Dooley, Lydia Dooley, Lillian Dooley, and Luke Dooley; son: Jeremy Dooley (Amber) of Mt. Auburn and their children: Blake Dooley, Clayton Dooley, Jacob Dooley, and Nathan Dooley; brother: Roger (Donna) Dooley of New York; sister: Kay Lynn (Joe) Gano of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter: Deanna Jo Dooley; granddaughter: Lucy Wamsley; sister: Patsy Beamer; and brother: Gary Dooley.

 

Mr. Dooley will be cremated, and a visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday, April 23, 2021 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. A private family graveside service will be held in the Old Stonington Cemetery with Rev. James Jones officiating. Memorials may be left to Hope House of Central Illinois.
