Alvin John Mizeur

Alvin John Mizeur, 77 of Owaneco, passed away at 12:40a.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2021 in his home. He was born on June 15, 1944 in Pana, the son of Raymond L. and Betty J. (Neal) Mizeur. He married Janet Banko on June 20, 1964 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylorville. Alvin graduated from Taylorville High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. Alvin worked for ADM, retiring after 28 years, and proudly carried on his families heritage of farming as the 5th generation to work the land in central Illinois. His life-long love of agriculture continues on in his family, now entering the 7th generation. He was a member of VFW Post #4495. He not only gave back to his country, but spent decades giving back the the community of Owaneco, serving on the fire department for over 55 years, and village Mayor for 41 years. Aside from the farm, his greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife: Janet Mizeur of Owaneco; sons: Michael Mizeur (Becky) of Taylorville and Matthew Mizeur (Heather) of Owaneco; grandchildren: Wyatt Myers, Caleb Mizeur, Olivia Mizeur, and Noah Mizeur; siblings: Rick Mizeur (Kathy) of Owaneco, Larry Mizeur (Cathy) of Owaneco, Dale Mizeur (Doris) of Blue Mound, Phillip Mizeur (Karen) of Oconee, Chuck Mizeur (Bill) of Springfield, Sandra Moma of Altamont, Mary Petschow (Kim) of Elgin, Patty Beck of Taylorville, and Judy Wilhour (Mike) of Altamont; sister-in-law: Donna Mizeur of Owaneco; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Michelle Mizeur; brothers: Allen Mizeur and Paul Mizeur; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Dorothy and Mike Banko; brother-in-law: Bill “Boomer” Beck; and beloved dog, Daisy.

The funeral mass for Alvin will take place at 10:00am on Monday, August 23, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial, with graveside military rites, will be in the Owaneco Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at McClure Funeral Home.
