Todd Alan (Bird) Bruns

Todd Alan “Bird” Bruns, 53 of Taylorville, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 in his home. He was born on October 16, 1967 in Taylorville, the son of Sondra E. Birkenkamp and Larry M. Bruns. Todd worked as a truck driver for several years driving throughout the country, especially through the Rocky Mountains. He also enjoyed spending several years helping with fall harvest as a truck driver. Todd was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel. He enjoyed shooting sports and spending time at the gun range. Recently he took up archery in addition to guns. Todd will be remembered as a very giving, generous person. He was always willing to help out any family member, friend, or neighbor that needed assistance. He would do anything for anyone. Early in life he received medical assistance from the Shriners Children’s Hospital in St. Louis and in appreciation of that care, the family requests memorials to be left to the hospital in Todd’s memory.

He is survived by his mother: Sondra Menichetti (Ron) of Springfield; father: Larry Bruns of Taylorville; brother: David M Bruns (Chris) of Taylorville; step-sister: Lisa Slater (Mike) of Sherman; nieces and nephews: Kayla Bruns (Anthony Forehand), Hailey Bruns, Melisa Rock (Josh), Kelli Anderson, Andrew Slater (Ceelyn), and Levi Slater; great nieces and nephews: David Parker Forehand, Landan Tribble, Kaydence Mesecher, Julian Wilson, and Emma Rock; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister: Darla Cramer and stepmother: Martha Janet Bruns.

Todd will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, September 24, 2021 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Rodney Blomquist officiating. The visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday in the funeral home. In accordance with his wishes, Todd’s remains will be scattered in the Rocky Mountains.
