Randy A. Meyer

Randy A. Meyer, 56 of rural Witt, IL passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 after a valiant effort against a very rare and aggressive meloma cancer. Randy was born on October 27, 1964 in Salem, IL to Donald and Mildred (Burge) Meyer. He graduated from Kinmundy-Alma High School and then LakeLand Community College and SIU Carbondale with Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Ag Education. Randy taught Agriculture and VoAg for 33 years at Nokomis High School until his retirement in 2020. Randy was a caring teacher no matter what type of class, always encouraging students to do their best. Students often remarked they would never forget his classes. He was a passionate FFA advisor guiding many students to the success at Chapter, Section, District, State and National levels. He served the FFA in numerous ways and received several advisor and teaching awards in his career. Randy’s influence extended to fellow teachers throughout the state. Randy loved all things farming. He not only worked full time but farmed where he lived in rural Witt and where he grew up in Alma. His ability to see a problem and follow through fixing it was second to none. He enjoyed going to cattle sales and shows and traveled many miles with a trailer. His influence with young people and all the support and help for others will be greatly missed by his family and many others in multiple ways.

Randy leaves his wife Joan (Ruppert) who he married in 1993. His children from his first marriage Kristopher (Carol) Meyer of Salem and Abbey (Landon) Tate of rural Texico and Joan’s children Chad (Andrea) Ruppert of Witt, Beth (Brad) Dorsey of Moro, Norann Ruppert of Nokomis and Jordan (Randee) Ruppert of Witt. Grandchildren Brooks Moreland, Dominic and Darian Ruppert, Drew DeClerck, Claire and Jemma Dorsey, Laurel Forrester, Jocelyn and Paislee Rupert and Rylee and Kynlee Neff. Brothers Roger (Renae) Meyer and Richard Meyer of Alma. Several nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ron and infant sister Rhonda.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Nokomis. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 starting at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Nokomis. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery in Nokomis, IL. The family asks that all former FFA members that have their jackets to wear or bring them.

Memorials in lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to the Randy Meyer Memorial Fund for future scholarships to a deserving Ag or Vocational student.
