Marilyn Ruth Spresser-O'Bryan

Marilyn Ruth Spresser-O’Bryan, 88, of Taylorville, passed away at 6:13a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.  She was born on August 27, 1933 in Taylorville, the daughter of Joseph W and Irene (Burtle) Spresser.  She married Joseph Richard O’Bryan on February 11, 1956 in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death on February 10, 2020.  Mrs. O’Bryan worked for many years as a PE teacher in Kincaid and later was in charge of the in-school suspension program in Taylorville where she became known as Sarge, a nickname that she kept the rest of her life.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.  Marilyn was active with the Christian County Historical Society and the Genealogical Society.  She and Joe enjoyed taking many fishing trips to Michigan and spending time with family and friends.  She enjoyed gardening and canning, sewing, and making soaps.  Marilyn also previously operated her own home business of photo copying and restoration.  

 

She is survived by her children: John O’Bryan (Stephanie), Mark O’Bryan (Wendy), and Loretta O’Bryan, all of Taylorville; grandchildren: Kelly Schmitz of St. Louis, Trevor O’Bryan of Taylorville, and Chelsey O’Bryan of Springfield; great grandchildren: Rafe, Kyle, Dane, and Reid Schmitz.  She was preceded by in death by her parents, husband, and her brothers and sisters.

 

A private family graveside service for Marilyn will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Memorials may be made to the Christian County Historical Society, Christian County Animal Control, or the Catholic Daughters of America.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Marilyn, or condolences to her family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
