James Arthur Reed, Jr., 75 of Taylorville, passed at 2:27 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2022 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Jim was born on May 20, 1947 in Decatur to James Sr. & Dorothy (Hudson) Reed. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy. Jim was a devoted husband to his wife, Regina (Lonnon) Reed for 54 years, a loving father to his two daughters: Heather (Rusty) Reed-Snyder of Taylorville, and Jessica J. Reed of Taylorville; 4 grandkids: Remy, Corey, Skyler, and Ava; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister: June, and his best canine friend, Eddie Dean.
Jim worked as an over-the-road truck driver for 35 years for ADM and Carry Transit, where he ultimately retired. He enjoyed mornings at the local coffee shop with friends and family, and painting on the side. His biggest passion was traveling with his daughters to their horse shows and watching them compete as much as he could. Jim didn’t know a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and tell a good joke or two. Above anything else, he was a family man. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and hard working man that would drop everything to help others out. He will be greatly and deeply missed by all the lives he touched in his 75 years here with us.
Following Jim’s wish, he will be cremated and laid to rest at Hall Cemetery in Blue Mound. Private family services will be held at a later date. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville, Illinois, is assisting the family with arrangements.
