William Z. Bates, 90 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 7:20 a.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on November 13, 1931 in Taylorville, IL the son of Harry Edward and Nellie (Simpson) Bates. He married Patricia Oyler on November 13, 1952 in Taylorville, IL and she preceded him in death on October 16, 1990. He then married Wanda Bourdumis on December 12, 1992 in Stonington, IL and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2007. He worked and retired from Caterpillar in Decatur. William loved to mow yards and work outdoors especially in the garden.
He is survived by his children: William Z. (Marilyn) Bates of New Braunfels, TX; Julie (Ron) Perona of Owaneco, IL; Scott D. (Marty) Bates of Taylorville, IL; Lisa (William) McGehee of Firestone, CO; Grandchildren: Billy (June) Bates of Texas, April (Brian) Durbin of Taylorville, IL; Luke Bates of Taylorville, IL Jace Bates of Taylorville, IL; T.J. (Aimee) Bates of Taylorville, IL; Patrick (Ashley) McGehee, Derrick McGehee, Erika Peithman and Tony McGehee; Great-Grandchildren: Simone, Corine, Josephine, Adelyn, Mason, Ryan and Ella; Nieces: Lori (Matt) Britach of Ohio and Nancy Martin of Witt, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, Daughter: Kathy Sue Bates, grandsons: Ryan Bates, Ronnie Perona and Trent Bates, sister: Mary Jane Martin and brother: John Bates and James Bates.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 11:30 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Denis Hudson and Rev. Richard McKirahan officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.
