Roger Dale Vangeison

Roger Dale Vangeison, 68 of Taylorville, formerly of Stonington, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  He was born on March 21, 1954 at St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorville, the son of Earl and Marcella (Vancil) Vangeison of rural Morrisonville.  Roger attended Palmer Grade school and Morrisonville schools and graduated from Taylorville High School with the class of 1972.  He married Mary Callan and they later divorced. 

Roger was a licensed plumber, completing his apprenticeship under his brother, Harry VanGeison.  Roger owned and operated his own plumbing business entitled Vangeison’s Plumbing.  He helped train a long-time friend and employee, Aaron Whetsell in the trade.  Roger enjoyed writing music and playing the guitar with his music friend, Antone DeRocchi.  He was a colorful character, loyal to friends, and had a creative spirit.

He is survived by his children: Jake Vangeison (Kerry) of Lake Petersburg and Molly Westover (Josh) of Stonington and he was a proud grandparent of four grandchildren.  Also surviving are siblings: Fred Vangeison (Elaine) of Morrisonville, Sharon Hill (Jim) of Palmer, Sandra Klein of Stonington, Mary Daugherty (James Jr.) of Taylorville, and Deborah Svoboda (Phil) of Spokane, Washington; sister-in-law: Linda VanGeison of Jenks, Oklahoma; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Harry Lee VanGeison; son: Samuel Levi Vangeison; and brother-in-law: Glenn Klein.
