Bruce I. Ryan

Bruce Irwin Ryan, 73 of Taylorville, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 surrounded by his family in his home.  He was born on October 9, 1948 in Pana, the son of Bruce E. and Helen M. (Coombs) Ryan.  He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1966.  On November 18, 1972 he married Betty J. Roseberry at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.  Bruce worked many careers throughout his life including as a driver for Wareham’s Dairy, as a welder building grain bins and grain handling equipment, and for Firestone and Caterpillar.  He retired from Memorial Medical Center in Springfield where he worked as a pharmacy technician.  Bruce was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, where he enjoyed spending time with his friends.  He was an avid golfer and a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Fighting Illini, and Chicago Bears.  He truly loved people, especially his family, by whom he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife: Betty Ryan of Taylorville; children: Jacob Ryan and Jacelyn Prince both of Taylorville; grandchildren: Ryan Prince and Brady Prince; siblings: Bobbie Jo Cheaney (Steve) of Panama City Beach, Florida, Rich Ryan (Ann) of Fox Lake, and Tammy Jones (Tom) of Naugatuck, Connecticut; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and son: Jeb Ryan.

Mr. Ryan will be cremated, and his family will host a celebration of his life at a later date.  His remains will be laid to rest with his son at Oak Hill Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Ryan family who will choose a charity to donate to.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Bruce, of condolences to his family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
