Bobby Greene, 69 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 5:05 a.m. at his “Happy Place” the cabin near Lake Shelbyville. He was born on April 1, 1953 in Decatur, IL the son of Bobby and Peggy (Watson) Greene. He married Karen Mateer-Sebastian on November 27, 1981 in Grove City, IL. He worked and helped his dad at Greene’s Marathon and Bob Greene Auto Sales and he Retired from Caterpillar. Bobby had a love of cars and most anything with an engine. From a young age he even drove an old panel truck around the neighborhood at the age of 14. He always loved corvettes and he had several through the years. His pride and joy is his ’64 red convertible. He had a knack for buying and selling used vehicles, boats, and campers, and he would enjoy going to the car auctions with his dad. Bobby was a fixer and very handy, he could fix and repair most anything, Bobby and Karen enjoyed many years of boating and camping with their kids and friends. Later they built their little cabin in the woods and have had several years of enjoyment there. Bobby and Karen have been blessed with loving families and most of all enjoying time with their grandkids and great grandkids. Bobby always enjoyed family fish fries. He graduated from Taylorville High School in the Class of 1972 and he also served in the Air National Guard for 6 years.

Law of Owaneco, IL; Great Grandchildren: Hendrix and Treven Owens and Quinevere Law of Stonington, IL; Brothers: John (Lori) Greene of Westfield, IN; Chuck (Tina) Greene of Taylorville, IL and Joe (Linda) Greene of Cheboygan, MI; Sisters: Vicky Tarr of Springfield, IL; Jan Lamken of Auburn, IL; Ann (Tom) Swett of Birdsboro, PA; Michelle (Jason) Brown of Blue Mound, IL; Lee Bedinger of Taylorville, IL; Step-Siblings: Ron (Julie) Perona, John (Tammy) Perona; Marianne (Mark) Podeschi and Anna (Greg) Sams of Taylorville, IL; Step-Mother: Lillian Greene of Taylorville, IL; Brothers-in-Law: Mike (Denise) Mateer; Joe (Nancy) Mateer, Ralph (Sue) Mateer; Sister-in-Law: Alice (Gary) Seaton, Uncle: Mike Watson of Decatur, IL; and Many wonderful Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousin: Ron Howell, Brother-in-Law: Dennis Tarr and Nephew Jason Tarr.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 10:00-12:00 noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. A Celebration of Bobby’s life will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 12:00 noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. The family would love their family and friends to share a story or memory as a tribute to Bobby and please wear casual attire.
