Julia Ellen Stuart, 95, of Taylorville, and formerly Grove City and Mt. Auburn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 7:27 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center, Taylorville.

She was born in Mt. Auburn on June 26, 1927, and was the youngest of 4 girls born to Robert and Gladys Greer Hobbs. She fondly remembered her childhood growing up on the farm on Hobbs Curve south of Mt. Auburn. Julia married Elwood Stuart on June 17, 1952, in Taylorville. Julia raised two boys with Elwood, William and Stephen. She worked alongside Elwood or years learning how to drive trucks and operate field tile equipment. She spent many years working at Patton’s Grocery Store in Mt. Auburn. She was a life-long supporter of the Mt. Auburn community and member of the Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and always present at every important event in her family’s life. 

Julia is survived by her daughter in laws, Marilyn Stuart of Taylorville and Shirley Stuart of Mt. Auburn; two granddaughters: Karen (Dean) Beck of Edinburg, and Rachel (Sam) Peabody of Taylorville; two great granddaughters, Lola & Grace Peabody of Taylorville; two step-grandchildren: Brent (Mindy) Milburn of Mt. Auburn and Tracy (Jason) Elam of Mt. Auburn; 5 step-great grandchildren; one step-great great grandchild; along with several nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her mother, father, all three sisters, husband, Elwood, and both sons.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Grove City Cemetery with Les Hohenstein officiating. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. Memorials in Julia’s name can be made to the Mt. Auburn Farmer’s Picnic Association.
