Timothy E. Mayes, 69 of Taylorville, passed away at 4:11p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.  He was born on February 9, 1953 in Butte, Montana, the son of Thomas E. and Doris (McIntosh) Mayes Sr.  He married Theresa Schroyer on November 28, 1975 in Taylorville.  Tim worked in manufacturing for many years including at Macon Metals and GSI.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid sports fan, especially the Cubs and Bears.  He had a passion for demo derbys and competed in many throughout the years.  Reading was another favorite hobby of his, especially westerns.  More than anything he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife: Theresa Mayes of Taylorville; children: Tammy Bowers (David), Timothy Mayes Jr.(Alicia), and Tiffany Mayes all of Taylorville; grandchildren: David, Emma, Chloe, Timothy, Taylor, and Roy; he was one of 13 children, including his siblings: Brenda, Terry, Ted, Bonnie, Connie, and Roberta; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father: Junior Weakley; great grandson: Kai; and several siblings. 

A visitation for Tim will take place from 4 until 6p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Following the visitation, a dinner will be hosted at the Bethel Baptist Church near Sharpsburg.  Memorials may be made to Taylorville V.F.W Post #4495.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Tim, or condolences to his family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
