Dennis O'Malley

Dennis M. O’Malley, 82, of Nokomis, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 3:10 A.M.  at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 29, 1940 in Witt, IL, the son of Wm O’Malley and Celia Bertha (Brown) O’Malley.

 

Dennis was a 1958 graduate of Nokomis High School and joined the U.S. Navy shortly after. He married Doris O’Malley on February 6, 1965 at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL. Dennis was a member and founder of the Nokomis Bowling Association and was an avid golfer. He ran his own golf Tournament, The O’Malley Open, for 25 years and loved boating, Illinois, and The Chicago Cubs. Dennis retired in 2000 after working as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

 

He is survived by his wife: Doris O’Malley; Daughter: Michelle (Jeff) Kimbro of Caitlin, IL; Sons: Dennis (Rosalind) O’Malley of Nokomis, IL; Daniel (Kim) O’Malley of Bingham, IL; Grandchildren: Josh and Jenny Kimbro; Amber (Bryant) Wright; Nick O’Malley; Taylor (Beau) Hutchison; Tylor (Alexis) Knisley; Spencer O’Malley; Great-Grandchildren: Brody, Baylor, and Brynn Wright; Issac and Greta Hutchison; and Brother: Donald O’Malley of Decatur, IL.Dennis is preceded in death by his parents; Granddaughter: Ayden O’Malley; Sister: Dorothy Ann Kottwitz; and Brothers: Billy, Gerald, and Chuck O’Malley.

 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL. Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11:00 A.M., with Father Michael Meinhart officiating. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Nokomis. The family asks that you do not dress up and that you wear your favorite sports attire to the service.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the St. Louis Catholic School Ayden O’Malley Scholarship fund.

 

Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
