Peggy Dolores Mitchell, 99 of Taylorville, passed away at 2:00p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born on July 24, 1923, in Taylorville, the daughter of Louis Joseph and Marguerite (Kuntzman) Bertucci.  She married John Richard Mitchell on December 31, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri. Peggy attended St. Mary’s Hospital College of Nursing in East St. Louis and Jersey City State College.  She retired as the Director of Nursing at United Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey.  She was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church where she was active in many areas including United Methodist Women. Peggy had a passion for giving back to her community and did so in a number of ways including being a member of the Christian County University Women, Taylorville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Christian County Historical Society, Order of Easter Star, and the Ansarettes.  She also enjoyed baking, canning, crafts, embroidery, crocheting, French glass beading, and flowers.

She is survived by her Grandson: Ian Scott and wife Dawn of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; great grandchildren: Liam Andrew Mitchell and Aidan Duglas Mitchell; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son: John Gregory Mitchell.

A funeral service for Peggy will be held at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the Taylorville First United Methodist Church in Taylorville with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral in the church and burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
