Dennis A. Lawyer, 57 of Taylorville, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 15, 1965, the son of Richard Eugene Lawyer and Mattie Marie Layne. He married Susie David on October 3, 2015 in Taylorville.

Dennis graduated high school and went on to work as a self-employed carpenter. In his spare time, he loved fishing and spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by his wife: Susie Smith of Taylorville, IL; children: Jason Lawyer of Taylorville, IL; Nathan (Rebecca) Lawyer of Kincaid, IL; Tyler (Katrina) Smith of Taylorville, IL; Amanda Biggs of Taylorville; Kimberly (Tyler) Lawyer of Taylorville, IL; Joey (Brianna) Lawyer of Tennessee; grandchildren: Jace; Matti; Jaylynn; Micah; Declan; Hendrix; Silas; Makinley; Jamison; Jackson; Ayden; Mikula; Brooklynn; Dawson; Easton; Madeline; Chuck; Zeyton; Payton; brothers: Dayle Lawyer of Owaneco, IL; Travis Lawyer of Pelham, TN; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Mattie Lawyer; son: Brent Lumb; and uncle: Jim Lawyer.

No public services will be held at this time. Memorials in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
