Michael J. “Mick” Ryan, 82 of Taylorville, passed away at 3:17p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023 surrounded by his family in his home.  He was born on January 10, 1941 in Decatur, the son of Joseph Bernard and Ivah Cordelia (Cazelet) Ryan.  He married Nancy Sue Workman on January 8, 1966 in Taylorville, celebrating 57 years of marriage.  Mick graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield in 1959 where he competed in many sports, most notable baseball.  Mick served in the Illinois National Guard.  He had a long career as an insurance producer, and for many years was a co-owner of KMRM Insurance in Taylorville.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a passionate fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.  Mick enjoyed spending time outside working in the yard, especially mowing grass.  He enjoyed traveling, country music, and was an avid toy tractor collector.  More than anything, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife: Nancy Ryan of Taylorville; children: Ric Ryan, husband Ed Guedes, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Shannon Ryan-Davis, husband Rodney, of Taylorville; grandchildren: Toryn Ryan Davis-Winkler, husband Matthew, of Chicago, Griffin Ryan Davis and Clark Ryan Davis both of Taylorville; brothers: Rodger “Butch” Ryan, wife Cindy, and Terry Ryan, wife Lois, of Taylorville; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mick will be cremated and a private family memorial mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington with Fr. Dan Willenborg officiating.  Inurnment will take place at Fraley Cemetery in Taylorville.  Memorials may be made to the choice of the donor.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Mick, or condolences to his family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
