Dorothy E. Speagle, 88 of Taylorville, passed away on June 27, 2023, at her residence. She was born on June 28, 1934, in rural Assumption to the late James Render Garrett and Ruby Lee Garrett. She married Donald Duane Speagle on March 14, 1954, and he preceded her in death.

Dorothy loved giving back to her community. She was very involved with the development of the School of Light and volunteered for 22 years as a coach for the Special Olympics of Christian County. She loved bird watching, playing cards, and spending time at the Senior Citizen Center.

She is survived by her sons: Daniel (Mary) Speagle; David (Michelle) Speagle; grandchildren: Kimberly (Michael) Anderson; Nathan (Alee) Speagle; Kelsey Speagle; Joy (Cory) Schutte; Jodi Burden; Jennifer (Nathan) Bissey; Jacob (Devon) Carlen; great-grandchildren: Nicholas; Mattie; Quincy; Blake; Dylan; Tyler; Ashleigh; Cherokee; Devin; Cayden; Colin; Alaina; and best friend: Charlie Plotner.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents: James and Ruby Garrett; husband: Donald Speagle; sister: Pat Nave; and daughters: Debbie Speagle and Denise Longtin.

A visitation will be held on July 7, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. A private family inurnment will be held at a later time.

Memorials in Dorothy’s honor may be made to the Christian County Senior Citizen Center.
