Cecilia Jane Yonker, 77 of Taylorville, died on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 11, 1946, the daughter of Cecil and Geraldine Haines of Taylorville, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald “Tom” Haines and John Haines.

Cecilia graduated from Taylorville High School and attended St. John’s School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse working for St. Vincent’s Hospital in Taylorville and then the State of Illinois before retiring in 2008. Cecilia was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and various other crafting projects in her free time. She will be remembered for being a kind hearted, fun loving woman, who loved spending time with her family and friends.

Cecilia is survived by her son: Alan Yonker; daughter: Brenda (Matthew) Hughes; grandchildren: Bailey Yonker; Bricelyn Yonker; Brenna Yonker; Matthias (Abby) Hughes; Austin (Libby) Hughes and Tyler Hughes; great-grandchildren: Iris; Elisha; and Alakai; sister: Barbara “Barb” (Steve) Waddell; and brothers: Robert “Bob” (Cheryl) Haines and James “Jim” (Sandy) Haines.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 10:00-12:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will begin at noon with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Memorials in Cecilia’s honor may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
