Mr. Harold Ray “Shanks” Leaderbrand, 92, of Kincaid, IL passed from this life at 8:42 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village, Springfield, IL.

He was born in Detroit, MI on December 3, 1930 the son of Elmer R. and Hazel (Neal) Leaderbrand.

Harold married Shirley Jean Howard on June 23, 1952 in Jefferson City, MO.  She preceded him in death December 3, 2013.

Mr. Leaderbrand was a member of the Baptist Faith.  He retired in 1991 after 26 years at Mine #10 near Pawnee.  He was known for playing country music on his Steel Guitar and was a member of the RockABilly Hall of Fame inducted September 2, 2006 as a member of Red Moore and the Rhythm Drifters.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his children: Terry (Tricia) Leaderbrand of The Villages, FL., Darla (Tim) Pieper of Kincaid, IL., Mike Leaderbrand of Shelbyville, IL., Christie (Ron) Nelson of Kincaid, IL., 7 grandchildren Jason and Nicholas Nelson, Trevor Leaderbrand, Tara Ott, Sean and Bethany Pieper, and Derek Fulton, 4 great grandchildren Ethan Fulton, Georgiana Perryman, Rosalind Ott and Elaine Pieper along with siblings Preston Leaderbrand of IN., Jimmy Leaderbrand of NV., Lucille Franklin of Taylorville, and many nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Laura Fulton, granddaughter Tiffiany Lynn Pieper, sister Gloria Pelc, brother Lawrence E. Leaderbrand and sister Jean Boulanger. 

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 A.M. Monday, July 17, 2023 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 A.M.  Rev. Louis Kunz will officiate.  Burial will then take place at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville.  Memorials contributions are suggested to Kincaid Baptist Church – P.O.
