Sharon Kramer Downs

Sharon Kramer Downs, 83 of Taylorville, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on July 14, 2023, after a brief illness.  She was born on April 12, 1940, in Millersville to Ogretta Schafle Kramer and Raymond Kramer.

Sharon graduated with the class of 1958 from Taylorville High School and later attended Lincoln Land Community College. Sharon was a dedicated employee for over 40 years at the Sangamon Company where she held various managerial positions. She also was former owner of The Best 4 Less gift and greeting card store on the Taylorville Square. Sharon was a member of the Davis Memorial Christian Church and later Taylorville Christian Church. She was a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority. Throughout her life, Sharon loved water skiing, playing golf and bowling as a member of the Powder Puff league. She enjoyed gardening and especially loved tending to her rose bushes. She was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears and loved watching the March Madness college basketball tournament. Sharon had fun playing bridge and poker with her friends and family.

She is survived by her children, Susie Posnock (Wendy) of Skokie, IL and Dana Davis (Pascal Peintre) of Bordeaux, France; her beloved granddaughter Alexandra Je Posnock; Siblings: Shirley Behrends, Carole Swigert and Ray Kramer; cousins William Perk Wilson, Bonnie Kramer and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Donna Daughtry; and dear cousins Michael, David and Jeanne Budds, Don Kramer, Mary Kramer Lussow; and her special best friend Mark Szabo.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Taylorville, Il. A private family funeral service will take place following the visitation with Reverend James Jones officiating. A private family interment will take place at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in rural Taylorville at a later date.
