Barbara A. Moomey

Barbara A. Moomey, 79 of Owaneco, passed away at 7:15p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Pana Community Hospital.  She was born on May 28, 1944 in Taylorville, the daughter of Ritzman and Melba (Jones) Bishop.  She married Ronald Moomey on May 20, 1977 in Nashville Tennessee.  Barb worked as a telephone operator for Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company for many years and was a member of the Owaneco United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed shopping, collecting frog figurines, playing cards, and reading.  Barb loved to host family gatherings and delighted in giving gifts, and she made sure each gift was perfectly wrapped.  Above all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored. 

She is survived by her husband: Ronald Moomey of Owaneco; children: David Rightnowar of Taylorville, Cathy Mizeur (Larry) of Owaneco, Renee Coppock (David) of Billings, Montana, John Rightnowar of Taylorville, Peggi Cisco (Mark) of Stonington, Linda Moomey (Brent) of Owaneco, and Dawn Swiney (Donnie) of Millersville; grandchildren: Kate Tremain, Kenneth Moomey Jr., Alyshia Rightnowar, Paul Mizeur, Mark Mizeur, Cierra Coppock, Joshua Cisco, Kayleigh Cisco, Nicole Cisco, Shawn Moomey, Ann Moomey, Stephen Swiney, Scott Swiney, and Rachel Swiney; several great grandchildren; sisters: Sue Powell (Bob) and Linda Schroyer (Roger); and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Kenneth Moomey; and brother: David Bishop.

The funeral service for Barbara will take place at 10:00a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Jessica Baldyga officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Owaneco Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Barbara, or condolences to her family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
