Ronald Boyer

Ronald “Hawkeye” Boyer, 78 of Edinburg, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Taylorville Care Center.  He was born on June 17, 1945 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Preston Earl and Dorothy Ruth (Martindale) Boyer.  He married Bernadine LaMont on November 9, 1974 in Funks Grove.

Ron graduated from Northeast Missouri St University, and went on to serve the US Army, where he spent time in Europe and Korea.

During and after his time in service, he worked as a teacher and guidance counselor, while also chasing his passion of coaching track & field, baseball, football, and basketball.  He served as an IHSA baseball umpire.

He went on to work as a Springfield mail carrier and retired from the Post Office after 25 years of service. He was a hard worker, was unconditionally loyal, and was a lifelong supporter of St Louis baseball and Iowa Hawkeye athletics.

He enjoyed red wine, mowing his yard, and tending to his garden. He cherished opportunities to witness his family members compete in sports.  Above all, he was a family man and adored his 3 grandchildren, and leaves behind many fond memories for all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife: Bernadine Boyer of Edinburg; sons: Jeff Boyer (Jennifer) of Mt. Zion, Tim Boyer (Ashley) of Edinburg, and Greg Boyer (Andrea) of Mattoon; grandchildren: Carter, Riley, and Avery Boyer; and siblings: Carolyn Stober of Talladega, Alabama, Judy Lamb of Moravia, Iowa, and Kenneth Boyer (Barbara) of Stanford, Kentucky.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ron will be cremated, and a memorial service will take place at 5:30p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Cody Battefeld officiating.  Visitation will take place from 4:30p.m. until the time of the service at 5:30p.m. on Friday.  Memorials may be made to the Edinburg United Methodist Church or St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Ronnie, or condolences to his family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
