Timothy “Tim” S. Hershey, 77, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on August 17, 2023 in Bloomington, IL. Tim was born on February 15, 1946 to Richard G. and Charlotte (Rueger) Hershey in Ann Arbor, MI. 

Tim graduated from Taylorville High School in 1964. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Millikin University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from University of Illinois Springfield. Throughout his life, Tim was a successful farmer. He loved the land and particularly the planting season. Tim devoted his career to growing Prairie Rise Farms. 

Tim had many interests. He competed in equestrian competitions throughout IL. Tim was an animal “whisperer,” making connections with and loving animals his entire life. He was elected to the Christian County Board and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville, IL. 

Tim loved his family dearly. He will be forever cherished and missed by his wife, Marsha; son, Richard (Connie) of Owaneco, IL; daughter, Hillary of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter, Gabrielle of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Chad Barlow, of Florence, SC, and Alix Barlow (Dominic Fallin) of Taylorville, IL; sister, Carol (Ron) Periard of Springfield, IL; nephews, Mark (Barbara) Periard of Grand Rapids, MI, and Geoff Periard of Naples, FL; stepdaughter, Stacie France (Scott Bloom) of Bloomington, IL; step grandson, Charles Rada of Bloomington, IL; and many great grandchildren, great nephews, and a great niece. 

Memorials in Tim’s honor may be made to Christian County Animal Control, 300 S. Baughman Rd, Taylorville, IL 62568, or Taylorville High School Future Farmers of America (FFA), 1100 N. Sportsman’s Drive, Taylorville, IL 62568. 

A private, family service will be held to celebrate Tim’s life.
