Tony Dan Whetsell, 77 of Taylorville, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born on January 24, 1946 in Mattoon, the son of James and Thelma (McKenzie) Whetsell.  He married Carolyn Jean Reese on October 20, 1965 in Mattoon, and she preceded him in death on August 26, 1999.  Tony worked for several years at Liberty Mutual in Taylorville and went on to teach for 19 years for the Pana Schools.  He was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church and graduated from Eastern Illinois University.  More than anything, Tony loved spending time with his family. 

He is survived by his children: Amy Whetsell (Cheryl) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Andy Whetsell (Beth) of Taylorville, and Aaron Whetsell (Heather) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Sophie Whetsell, Jake Whetsell, Mallory Westrick, and Macey Westrick; sister: Kayla Grisson (Fred) of Mattoon; and brother: Matt Whetsell (Jamie) of Silver Springs, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother.
