Joseph David Cook, 78 of Pawnee, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, in his home.  He was born on May 3, 1945, in Taylorville, the son of Herbert and Mary Jo (Sutton) Cook.  He worked for Peabody Mine #10 where he retired after 30 years of service and was a member of UMWA Local 9819.  David enjoyed woodworking and loved poodles, having raised several over the years. 

He is survived by his siblings: Barbara Hodges (Weldon) of Taylorville, Jerry (Roswitha) Cook of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jessie Dumont (Janet) Cook of Stonington; and caretaker: Misty Martin of Pawnee.  He was preceded in death by his parents. 

David will be cremated, and a graveside memorial service will take place at 10:00a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Old Stonington Cemetery with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of David, or condolences to his family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
