John “Chief” Hart, 66 of Pana passed away December 1, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.
John was born August 28, 1957, in Los Angeles, CA to the late George and Patricia (Swift) Hart. After high school, John joined and proudly served in the U.S. Army. John spent most of his life in California and then moved to Illinois in 2010. John was proud of his Native American Heritage. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and was known for being an avid gambler, enjoying the casinos in California and Nevada.
John is survived by his sisters: Georganne (Jeff Hardy) Vaugh of Taylorville; Candy Coleman of California; and Patty Panjolma of Wyoming.
Per John’s wishes, he will be cremated with no services at this time. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Camp Butler Cemetery, Springfield. Memorials in John’s honor can be made to Pana Health and Rehab Center, 1000 East 6th Street, Pana, Illinois.
