Michael “Mick” Lee Driver, 82 of Springfield, IL, passed away on December 11, 2023, surrounded by his family at his residence, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on May 31, 1941, in Taylorville, IL, to C. Ray and Gladys “Peg” Driver. He married the love of his life, Mary Marie (Best) Driver on July 9, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and she survives.

Michael attended St. Mary’s School, then graduated from Taylorville High School with the class of 1959. He was employed in the computer field and traveled abroad to oversee world famous companies install computers. Mick recently returned to the area after a “20-year retirement visit” in Florida. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and would always tell you how he and his son attended the 1985 Super Bowl game.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Marie Driver of Springfield, IL; daughters: Kathy (Frank)  Scribano of McHenry, IL; Becky (Patrick) McCloskey of Chicago, IL; son: Michael Driver of Charlotte, NC; granddaughters: Molly (Phil) Gallico; Jillian Scribano; Emma McCloskey; grandson: Patrick “PJ” (Claire) McCloskey; great-grandsons: Jameson and Lincoln Gallico; as well as several nieces and nephews living in the Taylorville area.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents: Ray and Gladys “Peg” Driver; brothers: Raymond “Bud” Driver; James Driver; and his sister: Mary “DeeDee” Neikes.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 11:30-1:30 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. A funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Chad Zueck officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Michael’s honor may be made to Shriners Hospital.
