Raymond McKinnie

Raymond Harold McKinnie, 89, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL, on February 22, 2024. Ray was born on December 10, 1934, in Morrisonville, IL, the son of John and Ethel (Jarrett) McKinnie. He married Judy Lee Gant on March 17, 1956, in the Presbyterian Church, in Morrisonville, IL. They were married for just shy of 68 blessed years.

Ray was born and bred in the Morrisonville community and spent his entire life as a farmer. He started farming at a very young age with his father and continued to do so with his son until his passing; It was his passion and in his blood. He loved to raise cattle and had many beef customers over the years.

Ray was a member of the Taylorville Presbyterian Church, a community leader and a member of several organizations. He belonged to Ansar Shrine, Legion of Honor and Past Masters in Springfield, IL. He belonged to the Morrisonville Masonic Lodge #681 where he was the treasurer for over 40 years and also a member of the Pawnee Easter Star #436. He served on the Christian County Fair Board for many years and was an honorably discharged Army veteran.

Raymond’s greatest achievement and greatest gift was his family. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren gave him much joy and he liked watching them achieve, grow, and turn into the great people they have become.

Surviving Ray are his wife, Judy McKinnie of Morrisonville; children, Janet Lee (Paul) Smith of Silvis, IL, James Raymond McKinnie of Morrisonville, Thomas Michael (Philana) McKinnie of St. Charles, MO; grandchildren, Jacob (Karen) Smith, Darla (Justin) Kerwin, Michael McKinnie, Abbi McKinnie; and great grandchildren, Evelyn, Theodore, Peter, Connor, Jack, and many extended family members.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Pearl Lewis, Marjorie Blount, Jean Montgomery, Cecil McKinnie, Glenn ‘Spud’ McKinnie, Harry ‘Red” McKinnie; and grandson, Joshua Smith.

Visitation: 3:00 – 7:00 pm., Monday, February 26, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church, 116 E. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568.

Masonic Service: 7:00 pm., along with Ansar Shrine walk through.

Funeral: 11:00 am., Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the church, with speaker William Harmon, officiating.

Burial: will be at a later date in Morrisonville City Cemetery.

The family suggest memorials to be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in St. Louis in lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts.
