Robert Hugh Hogan, 90 of Taylorville, passed away at 10:22p.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Taylorville Care Center.  He was born on May 24, 1933, in Girard, the son of Wiliam Alfred and Margaret Marie (Ferguson) Hogan.  He married Janet Sciarini on December 16, 1960, and she preceded him in death on May 21, 1979.  Robert graduated from Kincaid High School and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He previously worked for Sangamo Electric, Illinois Department of Conservation, Taylorville Public Schools, and Taylorville Park District.  Robert was an avid Yankee Fan.  He played fast pitch softball for many years as a pitcher for many teams around the area including Decatur teams: Smokehouse, Riley’s, Perfect Windows, Decatur Merchants, Aleco Fertilizer; 6 teams in Assumption; and in Springfield: Springfield Venetian Blinds, Roason Buick, Decensos, Saputo’s, and One Day Cleaner, and he also played in the semi-pros. He especially loved playing at the Jeiseyville ball diamond.  In 2021 he was inducted into the ASA Illinois Softball Hall of Fame.   

He is survived by his children: Marta (Jerry) Banks of Taylorville, Cindy Sedlacek of Taylorville, Robert (Pam) Hogan of Chatham, Peggy (Mark) Hoffmeister of Taylorville, and William Hogan (companion Tracy Mills) of Kincaid; grandchildren: Joee Johnson, Sara Salisbury, Kristina Coleman, Kedra Emmerling, Aaron Hogan, and Holly Vickery; great grandchildren: Jack Nimmo, Kate Vickery, Jolee Johnson, Bailey Johnson, Lucas Salisbury, Maci Salisbury, Emilie Eson, Josh Coleman, and James Coleman; great grandson: Pierce Hogan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings: William Hogan, Joseph Hogan, Edward Hogan, Molly Hogan, Paul Morgan, Bernard Morgan, Michael Hogan, and John Hogan; and nieces: Mikey Tappert and Rose Mary Simmons.

Mr. Hogan will be cremated, and a private family service will be held followed by inurnment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
