Mary Lou McChristy

Mary Lou (Watson) McChristy, 82 of Stonington, IL, passed away on March 7, 2024, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on December 27, 1941, the daughter of Joseph Howard and Beatrice (Lewis) Watson. On August 19, 1962, she married the love of her life, J. William (Bill) McChristy, and they spent many happy years together before he preceded her in death on August 3, 2012.

Mary was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Stonington, where she played the organ and piano for services. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as the Red Hat Club. She was a homemaker and graciously took care of her children and all her grandchildren. She loved her family dearly and is deeply missed.

She is survived by her son, Frank (Mary) McChristy of Stonington, IL; daughter-in-law, Lori McChristy of Mt. Zion, IL; grandchildren, Megan (Luke) Wright of Springfield, IL, Joe (Amber Powers) McChristy of Shelbyville, IL, Ben (Dakota) McChristy of Macon, IL, Jamie (Mike Helton) McChristy of Taylorville, IL, Jeff McChristy of Galesburg, IL; great-grandchildren, Nova Wright, Aubri McChristy, Kody Helton, Paislee McChristy, Peyton McChristy; sisters, Pat Beard of Prospect, VA, Janet Bell of Stonington, IL, Brenda (Gary) Mills of Taylorville, IL; sisters-in-law, Nancy Dowdy of Stonington, IL, Cynthia McChristy of Stonington, IL, Barbara Watson of Wheaton, IL, brother-in-law, David (Susan) McChristy of Stonington, IL; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, J. William (Bill) McChristy; her son, Michael McChristy; two brothers, Tom Watson and David Watson; and her sister, Sharon Lyons.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Stonington. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Scott Parks officiating. Interment will follow at Old Stonington Cemetery.

Memorials in Mary’s honor may be made to First Baptist Church in Stonington.
