Sharon Ruth Vangeison Hill

Sharon Ruth Vangeison Hill went to be with her Lord and Savior March 12, 2024. She was born to Earl and Marcella (Vancil) Vangeison. She was born on the 12-mile road in one of the worst snowstorms of the century. Dr. Hill could not make it to the house so the neighbor lady delivered her. She attended Sherman Elementary, Palmer Elementary and graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1961. She wore many hats in her life. She was a member of Master Gardners of Christian County, a member of Peter Meyer Chapter Daughters of American Revolution and served as Past Regent (2019-2024), and a 60+ year member of Pawnee Order of Eastern Star where she served as Past Worthy Matron in 1972. She is also a former Pawnee Lioness, Pawnee Cub Scout den mother, Mother Advisor of Pawnee Rainbow for girls, Pawnee Sports Boosters and previous member of the Red Hat Society in Hermitage, MO. She was Employee of the Month at Sangamon State University September 1984. She was a previous member of Zenobia Baptist Church and most recently Secretary/Treasurer of Palmer Advent Christian Church until it closed in 2020.

Sharon worked as a Correspondent for the Pawnee Post for many years, Bookkeeper for D & D Sales & Service, Playground Supervisor at Pawnee Schools, and Pawnee Super Value Grocery Store. She went to work in 1980 at Sangamon State University (currently University of Illinois at Springfield) and retired in 1998 as Director of Registration.

Sharon loved her flower beds and feeding the birds. She enjoyed her time on the Chippewa Flowage in Northern Wisconsin and all her homes her husband built for her. She loved cooking and baking for her family and most of all spending time with them.  She also enjoyed watching Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs football.  Sharon loved dancing especially to 1950’s music and a few groups since then. She loved Bob Sieger, Magic Dragon, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton and the Righteous Brothers. She once won a breakfast date with Frankie Lane from a Springfield radio station.

Sharon and James “Jim” R. Hill met in 1959 and married September 17, 1961 at Zenobia Baptist Church. She is the mother of Doug (Kim) Hill of Oxford, WI and Dana (Tom) Tindell of Pawnee. She is the Grandmother of Jennifer (Matt) Olesen,  of Verona, WI, Zachary (Jessica McGaughy) Tindell of Decatur, Joseph Tindell of Pawnee, and Jordan (Sarah) Hill of Minneapolis, MN; Great Grandmother of Phoenix Jean Howell-Tindell and Winchester Tindell.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, two children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also survived by siblings, Fred (Elaine) Vangeison of Morrisonville, Sandra Klein of Stonington, Mary (Jim) Daugherty of Taylorville and Debbie Kay (Phil) Svoda of Spokane, WA. Sister-in-law Linda Vangeison of Jenks, OK, sister-in-law Betty (David) Hankinson of Houston, TX, sister-in-law Mary Borrie of Couderay, WI and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents Earl and Marcella Vangeison, brothers; Harry Lee Vangeison and Roger Dale Vangeison, brother-in-law Windy Borrie, brothers-in-law Gary Hill and Glenn Klein, sister-in-law Sandra HIll, father-in-law Joseph Hill, mother-in-law Lucille Hill and best friend Marilyn Salzeider.

A memorial service for Sharon will take place at 12:00noon on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at McClure Funeral Home with Pastor George Elder officiating.  The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Following the service, a luncheon will be held at the Bear Creek Township building.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Harper’s Ferry Cemetery, Palmer.  Memorials may be made to the Morrisonville Ambulance.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Sharon, or condolences to her family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
