Frances Eilene Montgomery, 96, of Mt. Auburn, IL passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Frances was born April 14, 1927, in Mt. Auburn, IL, the daughter of Roy and Marguerite (Conaway) Dunn.  She married Floyd Montgomery on August 3, 1946, in Mt. Auburn Methodist Church Parsonage. 

 

Surviving is her son,  Mark Alan (Shelly) Montgomery of Rochester, IL; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Gerri) Dunn of Bedford, IN;  and Bob (Sharon) Dunn of Oreana, IL; one sister, Barbara Walter of Pawnee; a sister-in-law, Fritzi Conaway of Decatur; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Montgomery of Springfield, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years; two sons, Charles and David Montgomery; one great-great-grandchild; four sisters; three brothers; two daughters-in-law; and a brother and sister in infancy. 

 

Frances graduated from Mt. Auburn High School class of 1945.  She worked at Illiopolis Ordinance Plant Signal Department in Decatur and retired for the State of Illinois.  She enjoyed reading, cooking for family, playing bingo, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. 

 

A visitation will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.  The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. and interment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. 

 

Memorials in her honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.
