John L. “Skippy” Sample, 78 of Taylorville, passed away at 2:26 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in his home.  He was born on November 23, 1945, in Decatur, the son of Harold Leroy and Jessie (Franklin) Sample.  He married Mary E. Bridges on August 10, 1968, in Springfield and she preceded him in death on August 21, 2011.  John previously worked for S & W Pest Control and Terminix.  He enjoyed watching TV, was a NASCAR fan, and enjoyed attending car shows.

He is survived by his daughter: Jody Grove (Brian) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Jessie Pearson (Drew) of Taylorville, and Harley Grove of Taylorville; great grandchildren: Ryder Pearson and Jethro Pearson; and nephew: Paul Monroe (Mary) of Springfield.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister: Cordie Louise Cravens.

Mr. Sample will be cremated, and no services are planned at this time.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
