Erma Lorraine Gesell, 94 of Taylorville, IL, passed away on March 31, 2024, in her home surrounded by her children. She was born on July 2, 1929, in Stonington Township, to George Wesley Bollinger and Nona Ellen Pyle. Erma married the love of her life, Ralph Gesell on July 10, 1946. After many happy years of marriage, he preceded her in death.

Erma was a homemaker and a member of Taylorville First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, going for walks, and reading novels. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, who will all miss her immensely.

She is survived by her sons, Gary Gesell of Kincaid, IL; Richard (Patricia) Gesell of Kincaid, IL; Gordon (Linda) Gesell of Taylorville, IL; Roy Gesell of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren, Kim (Steve) Heine; Brearin (Leslie) Land; Stephanie (Jeff) Henley; Gary (Shananne) Gesell; Mark Gesell; Hannah (Gavin) Duewer; Jennah Gesell; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her brother, George (Onita) Bollinger Jr. of Versailles, KY; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, grandson, Curtis Gesell, two brothers, Ray and Keith Bollinger, and her sister, Bernice Gesell.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials in her honor may be made to VFW Post 4495.
