Taylorville Obits

Robert Thomas Williamson

Robert ("Rob" / "Robby") Thomas Williamson, 43, of Taylorville passed away with his closest family surrounding him at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, on April 24, 2024.

Rob was born August 17, 1980, in Springfield, IL.  He grew up in Edinburg, IL and graduated from Edinburg High School in 1998.  He began working with the governor's office for the State of Illinois in 2000 and later transferred to the Illinois Commere Commission, where he has worked as an Information Services Specialist II for the last 22 years.

Rob and Amanda (Mandy) Niehaus married on October 8, 2005, at her grandparents' lakeshore near Litchfield, IL.  Together they started their family with his adoption of Amanda's daughter Reyna, and seven years later they were blessed with another daughter, Clara.  In February of 2024, they finalized the adoption of his great nephew, Tyler.

Rob was hard to forget -- a cheerful man with a deep voice who was always ready to share a laugh. Along with his family, he loved music and played bass guitar with several area bands.  He also loved the writings of Hunter "gonzo journalist" Thompson, as well as his long late-night phone calls with his dad.  Rob was the kind of man who shaved his head when his mother was battling cancer and who flew kites with his children on Easter Sunday.

The phrase "he leaves behind" is not accurate in listing his survivors. It is more appropriate to say that among those who have had the good fortune to share their love with him are his wife, Amanda; his daughters, Reyna and Clara; his son, Tyler; his parents, Bob and Deb Williamson of Edinburg; his extended family and his countless friends.

Loved ones who were waiting to welcome him were his paternal grandparents, Robert E. Williamson, Sr. and Betty M. (Richards) Williamson; maternal grandparents, Thomas A. Huston, Sr. and Pauline C. (Dowdy) Huston; father-in-law, Ron Niehaus; and good friends, Daniel Durbin, Brian Callan, and Joey Cavatora.

Rob didn't wish to be at the center of an elaborate funeral or visitation.  It's certain, though, that he would be pleased to know that kind wishes, funny stories, and memories were shared with those who miss him most.  They can be sent to The Rob Williamson Family at 610 Kenton Blvd, Taylorville, IL 62568.  Monetary gifts will greatly help his young family and can be sent c/o Amanda Williamson at the same address.
