Neva Ann Mooney, 72 of Taylorville, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  She was born on March 1, 1952 in Taylorville, the daughter of John and Vonda (Phelps) Mooney, who preceded her in death.  She is survived by her sister: Lisa (Randy) Richardson of Taylorville; nephew: John Richardson of Springfield; and niece: Kate (Will) Decker of Dallas, Texas.

Neva graduated from Taylorville High School and Western Illinois University.  She taught at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Taylorville for over 40 years.  She dedicated her life to teaching and loved her students and fellow teachers.  Above all, she loved her niece and nephew, to whom she was like a second mother.  Neva touched many lives with her kindness, always thought of others before herself, and she will be greatly missed. 

A celebration of life will take place at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Tom Bellegante officiating.  A visitation will be held from 10:00a.m. until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
