Lugenia C. “Dotty” Parrish, 95 of Taylorville passed from this life on Monday, May 20, 2024.
She was born on January 25, 1929, in Taylorville the daughter of William T. McLeod and Irma F. (Adams) McLeod. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, John and Viola Adams. Dotty graduated from Taylorville High School in the class of 1946. She went on to work at Sangamon Company in Taylorville. On June 6, 1948, she married Harold R. “Slick” Parrish. They were married for 73 years.
She remained a stay-at-home mom for several years. Later, she returned to work as a bookkeeper at Brown and Sons where she worked alongside her husband.
While raising her daughters, she was involved in their grade school activities and committees. She was also active with her girls’ scouting. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, participating in Bible study classes and various committees. She was an avid reader. She always looked forward to attending “Slick’s” navy reunions as well as their regular Thursday luncheons with high school classmates.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Irma; her husband; her half-sister Connie Law; her son-in-law Louis Trutter; sister-in-law Virginia Davis and husband Charles; sister-in-law Wilma Parrish; brothers-in-law Aldo Vitali and Carroll Law; and great-nephew J. R. Ewins.
She is survived by her daughters Patricia Trutter of Alvarado, Texas and Joyce (Dave) Jamison of Taylorville; grandchildren: Nick (Jane) Jamison of Westerville, Ohio; Megan Jamison of Taylorville; Alyssa Trutter of Bryan, Texas; Emily (Wesley) Shimek of Waxahachie, Texas; great-grandchildren: Lilly and Claire Jamison and Charlotte, Andrew and Adelaide Shimek; sister-in-law: Edmona Vitali of Taylorville; brother-in-law: Robert E. Parrish of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces/nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28 from 10:00 – 11:00 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorials in Dotty’s honor may be given to First United Methodist Church of Taylorville or FUR Love, the Charitable Resale Shoppe for the proposed animal shelter expansion project.
