Mary Evelyn Norris, 85 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 10:12 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She was born on December 20, 1938, in Pawnee, IL, the daughter of Ambrose and Lenora (Lovens) Boarman. Evelyn married George E. Norris on April 19, 1958. They were married for 66 years.
Before she and George had children, Evelyn worked for Dr. Thomas Butler for several years. She later worked for a local florist and at the Taylorville Public Library. Evelyn’s greatest love was her husband and family. She enjoyed sending cards and letters of encouragement to friends and neighbors and loved to make people smile. For many years she found joy in providing the 6th grade class at St. Mary’s with a special graduation gift.
Evelyn is survived by her husband: George E. Norris of Taylorville; daughters: Elizabeth (Brian) Hile of Taylorville, Susan (Steve) Curtin of Stonington, Lisa (Steve) Falica of Taylorville; daughter-in-law: Debbie Norris of Taylorville; grandchildren: Mark (Jennifer) Schaefer of Chatham, Amy Campogni of Taylorville, Benjamin Curtin (Fiancé Mackenzie Delaney) of Fisher, Jack Curtin of Stonington, Elizabeth (Brandon) Odam of Stonington, Daniel Laker of Taylorville, Luke Laker of Chatham, Lauren Falica of Taylorville, Matthew Norris of Assumption, and Amanda Wendling of Taylorville; great-grandchildren: Barrett and Ali Schaefer, Audrey Curtin, Brooks Odam, Audrey Norris, and Heidi Wendling; sisters: Donna (Gene) Norris of Ballwin, MO, Betty Fulford of Shelbyville, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Greg Norris; brothers: Ed Boarman, Joe Boarman, Bob Boarman; sisters: Shirley Gaddis and Sue Roessler; special aunt and uncle Ben and Florence Reichert.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. Funeral Mass will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Father Pitor Kosk officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Evelyn’s honor may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School or St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL.
