Richard M. Law

Richard M. Law, 87, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 26, 1936, in Owaneco, IL, the fourth son of Lloyd F. and Nellie Nevada (Friend) Law.

Richard attended Owaneco Elementary Grade School and lettered in basketball. He played baseball in the summer. He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1955, and on December 18, 1955, he married the love of his life, Kathleen McMillan, in the Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville.

Richard farmed for over fifty years after working for Allis-Chalmers in Springfield, IL, for two years. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and riding motorcycles. He served as a trustee for the Locust Township for several years and shoveled snow for many winters for the township. Richard also received a certificate of recognition and appreciation for volunteering at the Illinois Department of Corrections Taylorville Correctional Center throughout 1993, 1994, and 1995. Richard later served as a trustee for the Eagles Club for several years and drove cars for local car agencies. He and his wife, along with their daughter, Deborah, traveled every summer and later with his grandson throughout the United States. He loved spending time with his family and is missed dearly.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Law; daughter, Deborah Anne Law-Redoutey (Thomas Redoutey); one grandson, Richard Redoutey (Kelly Redoutey); and two great-grandsons, Owen and Lucas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Nellie Law, and his three brothers, Chester, Ivan, and Eugene.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville, IL. A graveside service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Christy Conrad officiating.

Memorials in Richard’s honor may be made to Kemmerer Village or to the Class of 1955 c/o Rick Mazzotti.
