It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of John “Jack” Nicholas Sanders, Jr., age 93 of Stonington, IL, having passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren during the morning hours of Friday, June 14, 2024. Family and friends alike are welcome to attend combined visitation and funeral services which will be from 10:30am to 12:30pm on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, held at the First Baptist Church in Moweaqua with Pastor Chris Ruehle officiating. Following the visitation and funeral, there will be a private graveside service for Jack’s immediate and extended family. Jack’s earthly resting place will be beside his beloved wife Marian at the Old Stonington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sanders Family with arrangements being overseen by Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care.
Jack Sanders was born on July 25, 1930, at his family’s home located on their farm in Christian County; born to parents John Nicholas Sanders and Zelda Elizabeth Mary Sanders, nee Wetzel. Jack married Marian Sue Sanders on October 17, 1954, and spent the following 59 years in love until Marian’s passing on June 19, 2014. Jack was then blessed to cross paths with a church friend from his childhood, Ruth Ellen Brown, and they were married in 2015 until Jack’s passing. Jack was a father of three, a grandfather of nine, a great-grandfather of nine, a great-great grandfather of two, and well beloved by the family he gained through Ruth.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marian Sue , sister Becky and brother Jim, and great-grandson Elijah Bently.
Jack is survived by his wife Ruth Brown; siblings Mary (Illinois), Ralph (Iowa), and Nina (California); children Stephen Sanders, Marla Tarrant, and Robin Lebsack; grandchildren Jenny Nusz, Steth Wahl, Jason Vincent, Elijah Sanders, Noah Sanders, Lauren Seibert, Lacey Lebsack, Sarah Sanders, and Levi Lebsack; great-grandchildren Savannah, Lilly, Asha, Melissa, Jonathan, Carson, Landon, and Graham; great-great grandchildren Brently and Eloise.
