Janet L. Stender, 74, of Edinburg, IL, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 2:49 p.m., at Springfield Memorial Hospital.  She was born April 15, 1950, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Julius and Ruth (Alexander) Ostermeier.  She married Bill Stender on August 22, 1970.

Surviving are her husband, Bill; a daughter, Dora (Mike) Pierce of Edinburg, IL; her grandchildren, Miranda (Khalid) Doan of Milwaukee, WI; Ethan (Eileen) Doan of Philadelphia; Levi Doan of Edinburg, IL; Julian (Abbey) Doan of Taylorville, IL; Zander Doan of Taylorville, IL; and Brent Pierce of Edinburg, IL; two great-grandchildren, Luca Ruppel-Doan and Liam Doan; her siblings, Nancy (Glenn) Holmes, Ed (Tina) Ostermeier; Tim Ostermeier; Fred (Ronda) Ostermeier; Julie Kueper; Dennis (Amy) Ostermeier; and Almyra Kiel; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Miranda Stender, and a brother, David Ostermeier. 

Janet worked as a nurse for Edinburg High School for over 25 years and was a firefighter/EMT for the Edinburg Fire Department for several years. During her free time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking, and antique shopping.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edinburg all of her life and enjoyed being a part of the church choir. 

The family will receive family and friends at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024.  The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Sutton Memorial Home. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Edinburg, IL. 

Donations in memory of Janet may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Edinburg Fire Department.
