Robert L. Koss, 95 of Taylorville, formerly of Effingham, a man who cherished his faith and family, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Carriage Crossing Senior Living in Taylorville. He was born on November 29, 1928, the son of John Frank and Minnie V. (Robertson) Koss. He married Wilma E. Pontious on October 20, 1957, in the Altamont First United Methodist Church. Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family as much as his faith. Robert served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force and later worked as an insurance agent for Business Men’s Assurance. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville. Robert will be deeply missed and his memory will be cherished.
He is survived by his wife of 66½ years: Wilma Koss of Taylorville; children: Connie Lynn Schmidt (Nick) of Lewisville, Texas, Deanna Jo Strahl (John) of San Antonio, Texas, and Cristie Sue Kesterson (Jeff) of Taylorville Anthony R. Koss (René) of Ringgold, Georgia,; grandchildren: Nicholas W. Lock, John M. Strahl III (Brooke), Wesley Jo Strahl (Luisa), Taryn E. Strahl, Chelsea M. Prehn (Ryan), and Lucas R. Kesterson (Holly); great grandchildren: Madeline Prehn, Lillian Prehn, Elliana Prehn, Casey Kesterson, Avery Strahl, and Leah Kesterson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Arthur Koss, Oliver Koss, Playford Koss, Harold Koss, Frank Koss, Victor Koss, and Emma Lamkin.
The funeral service for Mr. Koss will take place at 11:30a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30a.m. until 11:30a.m. on Monday in the Church. The graveside committal service will take place at 2:00p.m. on Monday at the Union Cemetery in Altamont. Memorials may be made to Hands of God Hospice in Springfield. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
