Charles F. Engeling Sr., 85 of Morrisonville, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 16, 1939, in Greenwood Township, the son of John F. and Ora (Shafer) Engeling. He married Janet Moomey on June 11, 1960, in Taylorville. Charles was a life-long farmer in Christian County and worked as a crop adjustor for many years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Charles and Janet loved to travel, together they visited all 50 states and several foreign countries. He had a love of sports cars, especially his Corvettes. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t fix, even if a few parts were left over after the repair. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a prankster. More than anything, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will always remember him as the candy man.
Charles is survived by his wife: Janet Engeling of Taylorville; children: Angela Anselm (Aaron) of Taylorville, Chuck Engeling (Lisa) of Morrisonville, and Bruce Engeling (Melissa) of Owaneco; grandchildren: Andrew Anselm (Julie), Alex Anselm (Meghan), Aimee Fahl (Jake), Jennifer Engeling (Tricia), Jessica Heil (Kurtis), Matthew Engeling, Kyle Engeling (Natalie), Kenneth Engeling, Amanda Pickett (J.D.), Emilee LaFace (Brock), and David Engeling (Kastin); 22 great grandchildren; siblings: Betty Limper (Alfred), JoAn Engeling, and Patty Mollohan (Larry); many nieces and nephews; and honorary son: Rudy Herkert. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter: Ashley Anselm; and siblings: Raymond Engeling, John Engeling, Wilma Young, Luralene Tarter, and Eva O’Brien.
A funeral mass for Charles will take place at noon on Friday, July 19, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Fr. Piotr Kosk officiating. The visitation will be held from 4:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. on Thursday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School or Loving Arms Pregnancy Center. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
