Robert Earl “Bob” McKinnon, age 88, a lifelong resident of Taylorville and Edinburg, Illinois, passed away on July 25, 2024, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.
Bob was born on August 2, 1935 in Kincaid, Illinois, the son of Fred and Mabel (Holmes) McKinnon. He married Barbara France on April 1, 1989, and she preceded him in death on May 4, 2023.
Upon graduating high school, Bob proudly joined the United States Air Force. He then went on to work for the Pepsi Cola Company in Springfield, Illinois, retiring after 35 years of service. Bob was a hard worker and continued to work up until the age of 81. He was also a roofer and spent 15 years at Kennedy Metal Products in Taylorville, Illinois. Bob also owned and operated B & B Concessions, running 3 concession stands at local fairs and festivals with his wife Barbara and their children for many years.
Bob enjoyed traveling in his mobile home, especially to Texas and Florida. He was known for being a good whistler to nearly any song he heard. He was a member of the Taylorville American Legion Post #73.
Surviving are his children, Marsha (Paul) Martynowski of Taylorville, Illinois, Donna (John Leeper) Miller of Edinburg, Illinois, Robert (Sara Deford) McKinnon of Riverton, Illinois, step-children, Lisa (Jim Jones) Moses of Taylorville, Illinois, Stephanie (John) O’Bryan of Taylorville, Illinois, Michael J. (Janet) France of Waynesville, Missouri, and Robert G. (John Madera) France of Norwalk, Connecticut; siblings, Fred (Fran) McKinnon, Carol Thomas, and Marcella Clay, all of Taylorville, Illinois, and Gary (Debbie Kemp) McKinnon of Edinburg, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; siblings, Ed McKinnon, Edwina Roloff, and Phama McKinnon; step-sons, William France and Randy France; and step-daughter, Laura Swiney.
A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob’s memory are suggested to The American Heart Association.
