Frances Helen Rush

Frances Helen “Danke” (Scallions) Rush, 91, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on July 30, 2024, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab. She was born on May 6, 1933, in Madison County, TN, to Dolphus David and Mamie Alberta (Waller) Scallions. She married Herman A. Rush on May 7, 1949, in Corinth, MS, and he preceded her in death on February 21, 1999. Helen retired from the Taylorville School District.

She is survived by her children, Debra (Robert) McGehee of Taylorville, IL; David (Donna) Rush of Byron, IL; Denise Barry of Pike Road, AL; and Darlene (Rodney) Ryner of Harrisburg, IL; grandchildren, Christopher McGehee; Michelle McGehee; David (Mary) Rush; Dana (Korey) Harper; Daryn (Stephanie) Rush; Kassie (Chris) Rourke; Jordan (Ross) Smith; Athena Ryner; and Nate Ryner; great-grandchildren, Jackson Rush; Mae Rush; Sutton Rourke; Collins Rourke; Grayson Smith; and Tatum Smith; and her sister, Betty Mays of Parsons, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, several brothers and sisters, and her grandson, Douglas Rush.

Danke, as she was affectionately known, loved to travel on cruises, camp on the Tennessee River, and attend concerts at the Nashville North venue in Taylorville with her sisters. She was famous in her family for her chicken and dumplings and banana pudding recipes, which were enjoyed, and sometimes fought over, at family gatherings and holidays. She was a devout follower of Christ and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville for over 60 years.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL with Dwight Durbie conducting a service at 11:00 a.m. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Parsons Mortuary in Parsons, TN, with a graveside service immediately following the visitation at Parkers Crossroads Cemetery in Wildersville, TN.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activity Fund.
