Richard A. “Dick” Boyd, 80 years old, passed away on Wednesday evening, August 7, 2024, at his home in Taylorville, Illinois with his family by his side. He was born on December 30, 1943, in Taylorville, the son of Leslie K. Boyd and Frances M. (Babe) Stahulak. He married Joy McKee in 1969 in Taylorville.
Dick graduated from Taylorville High School, class of 1962. He attended Springfield College, University of Illinois- Champaign, and SIU-Edwardsville before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served overseas in Vietnam from 1967-68 with MCB 74 of the Seabees as company clerk.
Dick returned to Taylorville to Join his brother in the family construction and lumber business. Together they built single-family homes and commercial buildings in the area for more than 40 years.
Dick had a lifelong passion for reading and collecting books. He enjoyed daily coffee with friends and was always up for a spirited conversation at the table.
He is survived by his wife: Joy Boyd; son: Richard (Severine) Boyd; grandchildren: Liliane and Louis Boyd-Rosee; brother: William L. (Sandy) Boyd; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: James Dale Boyd; and favorite aunts: Edith Roberts and Ida Kunart.
Cremation, by his request at McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services, and a private celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the VFW-Taylorville. The family wishes to thank Quad County Hospice for their compassionate caregiving.
