Dolores Jean “Dee” McLaughlin, 76 of Taylorville, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, surrounded by family in her childhood home.  She was born on June 7, 1948, the daughter of Ivan C. and Marcella Ruth (Wareham) Pittenger.  She married Stephen McLaughlin on October 18, 1975, in the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville.  Dee worked at several locations throughout the years including Georgia Pacific, Taylorville Savings and Loan, Christian County Recorder, Optical Express, and most recently for G.S.I. as a sales consultant.  She will be remembered by her outgoing, eclectic personality and her huge heart.  She enjoyed collecting antiques, gardening and adored all animals from the smallest bug to her family pets.  Dee had a special taste in fashion and loved to dress up for any event that she could, especially the holiday teas that were hosted in Taylorville.  She had a love of music and dancing, but more than anything, she adored her family, especially her grandchildren. 

She is survived by her husband: Stephen McLaughlin of Taylorville; children: Tara Kowalczyk (Jason) of Gainesville, Georgia, Matthew McLaughlin (Lyndsey) of Morton, and Jarrod McLaughlin of Taylorville; grandchildren: Brynna McLaughlin, Madeline McLaughlin, Kyle Kowalczyk, and Colin Kowalczyk; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother: Daniel Pittenger. 

A funeral service for Dee will take place at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and burial will take place in the Owaneco Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Fur Love or the First Presbyterian Church, both of Taylorville.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
