Selma Jean Steele, 85 of Palmer, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Carriage Crossing Senior Living in Taylorville. She was born on September 9, 1939, in Taylorville, the daughter of Ernest and Selma (McIntosh) Turner. She married Jospeh Steele Jr. on March 31, 1956, in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on March 27, 2010. Jean worked for St. Vincent Memorial Hospital food service for over 43 years, retiring in 2000. She attended Taylorville First Church of the Nazarene. Jean loved flowers and was a wonderful cook. She adored her family, and they were the center of her life.
She is survived by her children: Rochelle Grundy (Richard) of Morrisonville and Laura Wilkinson (William) of Palmer; grandchildren: Brian Grundy (Suzanne), Joseph Grundy (Andrea), Mark Grundy (Katrina), and Jean Riemann (Dalyn) all of Morrisonville, Brady Wilkinson (Breanne) of Stonefort, and Bailey Wilkinson (Alex Eickhoff) of Springfield; and great grandchildren: Noah, Lucas, Emma, Joseph Girard, Abagail, Alaina, Adeline, and Lena Grundy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings: Mary Porter, Margaret Porter, Leroy Turner, Gerald Turner, Patrick Turner, Samuel Turner, and Kenneth Turner.
The funeral service for Jean will take place at 11:00a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at McClure Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Burch officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday and burial will take place in the Morrisonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Taylorville First Church of the Nazarene. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
