(Chester) Howard Gibson 80 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 2:46 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on December 19, 1943, in Taylorville, the son of Chester A. and Adella Florence (Armstrong) Gibson. Howard married Mary Edwards on October 1, 1965, in Taylorville and she preceded him in death on November 27, 2022. Howard served in the United States Army during Vietnam, when he returned from Vietnam he worked at Caterpillar where he retired after 33 years. He enjoyed time with his family and friends, fishing and camping on the Illinois River.

Howard is survived by his daughter Lori (Steve) Harrison of Taylorville; Grandson: Eric Harrison of Philadelphia, PA; Brothers: Jim (Sandy) Gibson of Taylorville, Joe (Connie) Gibson of Pittsfield, IL; Sisters: Corene (Lucian) Kent of Morrisonville; Diana Murphy of Taylorville; Susan Gibson of Prairie Home, MO; Sister-in-Law: Sherry (Terry) Marsango and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, sisters: Mary Kaydus, Lorene (Kyle) McGinnis and Sharon (Jim) Freitag.

Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with military graveside honors.  

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
