John Kenneth Young, 89, of Taylorville, IL, went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2024. He was born December 26, 1934, in Blue Creek, WV. John served proudly in the United States Army. He married Shirley Thacker on March 5, 1955, and they were together for 63 years until her passing in 2018. John was a well-known and respected truck driver and diesel mechanic who loved spending time with family and friends. A fixture at Country Kitchen for morning coffee, John also enjoyed camping, boating and restoring antique cars. 

He was preceded by his parents, Ivan and Mary (Simmons) Young, his wife Shirley, and brother Ivan Jr. He is survived by his sister Kathy (Billy) Byers of Virginia, sons David (Linda), Mark (Crystal) and Scott (Jamie), as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 

The family will receive family and friends at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2024, Pastor James Jones will officiate at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Per John’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charity of donor's choice.  Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
